Are Sports Dangerous?
Many people believe that sports are dangerous, thus less kids are put into sports. In my opinion I would like to say that sports are not dangerous since I love playing them, but after learning about the different factors of sports I would have to say that they are dangerous.
Sports Related Injuries
A concussion is now one of the most common and hear of sport related injuries. Sports may not always appear to be harmful, but when you are giving it your all and not paying attention to your surroundings they can turn to be life threatening. Many people have died because of having more than one cuncussion or blow to the head .Scientists luckly have used technology though and are now be able to prevvent and predict if you have a concussion or not. This website below has ways to notice a concussion before worse things develop.
There are many other sport related injuries just besides concussions. The most common ones that aren't too serious usually come from overuse and strains on the most used areas like the knee, shoulder, ankle, and elbow joints. To name some of the common ones there are:
- Spinal cord injuries (many types)
- Muscle pulls (happens when you go too hard when coming back into the game)
- Frozen shoulder (happens when you overuse the shoulder usually happens to softball, tennis, volleyball, swimming, and weight lifting players)
- Strained lower back (comes from moving awkwardly to one side)
- Tendonitus (when stress is put too much on one certain spot, most common in baseball pitchers, tennis players, and weight lifters)
- Runner's knee (when the knee cap digs into the cartilage from going side to side)
- Shin splints (when there is pain in the muscle around the shin, which is usually caused by running, jumping hard, or overuse)
- Foot arch pain/strain (happens usually to people with high arches or a sport that keeps the ankle standing)
And the one everyone knows of..... - Sprained or twisted ankle
